Maltese artist Joanne Scerri Valentino (b.1970) creates atmospheric watercolour paintings that capture the shifting moods of Maltese landmarks across different times and seasons. Her work often explores the theme of resilience, reflected in the natural heritage that thrives and flourishes in an increasingly changing environment. Drawn to the fluidity and transparency of watercolour, Joanne embraces the challenge of coaxing pigment and water into harmonious movement across paper. Her ongoing practice reflects a deepening exploration of the medium’s expressive range, allowing her to capture atmosphere and mood with sensitivity and control. Although Joanne has always been deeply creative, life’s practicalities led her to a professional career in marketing, then in an educational setting for ten years, before shifting her focus to her artistic development. A self-taught artist, she has refined her skills under the guidance of both local and international mentors. After years of dedicated practice, Joanne now works full-time as both an artist and art tutor.
