Born in Guernsey and raised in Malta, Caroline Navarro is a Neo-Expressionist painter who trained at the National Art School in Sydney (BFA). She is known for her live, “in-action” painting: she works “en plein air” or on-board sailing yachts and records regattas, harbours and historic sites in vibrant acrylics with energetic brushwork she is so well known for.
Over more than 20 years she has exhibited internationally, including at the United Nations in New York and at the Commonwealth Society and Harrods in London. She represented Malta at CHOGM 2002 and at an art symposium in Pescara, where her work is held by the city’s contemporary art museum.
After seven years in Lisbon, she is now based in Malta again. Her most recent practice includes her Japanese ink nude drawings, her ink & watercolour works made while sailing across the Pacific Ocean and most recently her alcohol-ink series on tracing paper developed while following a workshop at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes (SNBA) in Lisbon over the past few years.
Recent exhibitions include a group show at the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation in Malta last year, WE MIND at Safra LX, a multidisciplinary studio in Lisbon, this April, and her end-of-year show at SNBA this September. She also founded the “Creative Community Concept” and leads“NeuroAesthetica”, an art and neuroscience project. Her work is held in private and public collections across Europe, Australia, Japan, and the US.
