Surveillance

by Alma Salgada

  • Acrylic and embroidery on canvas
  • 80cm by 60cm
  • Malta, 2026
About the artwork: Surveillance imagines a garden as a symbolic representation of the natural world. Botanical forms from different origins coexist within the same landscape, while the guaraná introduces a connection to the artists’ Brazilian roots.

Small human figures cultivate, work and play among oversized plants, becoming part of an environment much larger than themselves. Yet within this apparently playful universe, the guaraná fruits resemble open eyes, creating a subtle sense of constant observation.

The work connects the natural world with a contemporary condition: a society in which our movements, habits and identities are increasingly observed through social media and digital systems. Without depicting technology directly, Surveillance transforms the garden itself into a space of watching.

    About the artists:
Camila and JP are visual artists from Alma Salgada, an art brand with roots in Brazil and a base in Malta. Their work blends Pop Art botanicals with the dynamic energy of urban art, transforming spaces into immersive visual experiences. Their signature style merges vibrant botanical compositions with contemporary urban techniques, including acrylics, spray paint, and embroidery. Each piece becomes a dialogue between nature and culture, emotion and form
