Rainy Afternoon captures the quiet allure of a drowsy day enveloped in misty rain. Cool, soothing greens dominate the palette, conjuring visions of a forest wrapped in a silvery drizzle or the shimmering reflection of rainclouds in a still puddle. The soft interplay of hues creates a contemplative mood, inviting the viewer to linger in the serenity of this ephemeral moment.

The delicate layering of spray paint and gouache establishes a gauzy, dreamlike atmosphere, while acrylic provides depth and texture, reminiscent of rain-soaked leaves and mossy undergrowth. Hand-tinted encaustic wax lends a luminous sheen, evoking the ephemeral glint of water as it catches light amidst the mist.

This piece is a meditation on calm and introspection—a celebration of the gentle rhythm of nature, where time slows, and the world feels hushed and eternal.

Born in 1989, Jessica DeMers graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2011. She then embarked on a journey of exploration, discovering various cultures to feed her creativity. DeMers’ artistic journey is one of diversity and experimentation. Her work, showcased nationally, weaves together elements of realism and abstraction, each piece telling a unique story. Through realism, she captures the essence of human resilience, celebrating the strength found in vulnerability. Simultaneously, her work in abstraction reflects the complexity and fluidity of human experience, inviting viewers to explore the realms of imagination and emotion. Drawing inspiration from her travels and encounters, DeMers employs a variety of materials and techniques in her mixed media creations. Each artwork is a testament to her eclectic approach. In 2021, DeMers found a new home in Malta. Embracing her newfound surroundings, she embarked on a journey of artistic discovery, immersing herself in the local art scene. An emerging artist on the international stage, DeMers has garnered recognition for her distinctive style and poignant storytelling. From a transformative two-week residency in Gozo to numerous group exhibitions, her artistic trajectory continues to ascend. Now, poised to captivate audiences with her solo exhibition at Il-Kamra ta’Fuq this December, DeMers stands at the threshold. Through her evocative creations, she invites viewers to embark on a journey of introspection.
