Avian Vision IV

by Mireille Vella

  • Mixed media on canvas
  • 70cm by 50cm
  • 74cm by 54cm framed
  • Malta, 2026

    About the artwork:
Developed in response to the ecological threats facing Malta’s birdlife, Avian Vision series draws on posthuman theory, particularly Donna Haraway’s becoming-with and Deleuze and Guattari’s becoming-animal, to challenge anthropocentric vision and propose more relational ways of seeing.

Using on-site images, editing them and reworked through mixed media, the works reimagine the Maltese landscape from a bird’s perspective

    About the artist:

Mireille’s practice explores the natural environment and animal perception through a posthuman lens. Rooted in this philosophy, her work rethinks human-centred ways of seeing by imagining and researching how other species experience the world, with the aim of instilling empathy and curiosity in viewers toward all forms of life.

This sense of interconnectedness also extends to her mixed-media practice. Working primarily in painting and photography she combines traditional and digital methods to create multisensory visual experiences characterised by vibrant colours, layered imagery and unconventional compositions.
