A Moment Outside Time 1

In A Moment Outside Time 1, Olaug Vethal captures figures gathered at the water’s edge, surrounded by a landscape alive with colour and movement. Bodies, sea and shoreline merge through fluid strokes of turquoise, orange, pink and violet, loosening the boundaries between figure and place.

Within Beyond the Visible, this everyday scene becomes a meditation on time and memory. Vethal captures not simply what was seen, but the sensation of having been there: a fleeting experience transformed through colour and gesture.

A Moment Outside Time 1 suggests those rare instants when our awareness of time recedes and experience becomes simply presence: a moment lived, remembered, and somehow held beyond time.

This work is currently hung at Spazju A, Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta until 25th October 2026 as part of the exhibition ‘Beyond The Visible | The Metaphysical Worlds of Olaug Vethal, curated by Christine Xuereb and in collaboration with Christine X Art Gallery
