CELIA BORG CARDONA | WE SIT IN ROWS

1926 La Galerie is pleased to present We Sit In Rows, a solo exhibition by Celia Borg Cardona, marking her much-anticipated return to the art world after a three-year hiatus. This exhibition, her debut at the gallery, will be on view from 3rd to 25th October 2025.

Featuring a compelling new series of works, We Sit In Rows captures the quiet tension, intimacy, and rhythm of theatre audiences seen from above. Each piece offers a contemplative perspective on the collective experience of spectatorship — rows of individuals, united in posture yet separated in thought, assembled in anticipation of performance.

The exhibition’s setting — directly across from the Manoel Theatre, one of Europe’s oldest working theatres — is particularly resonant. The proximity underscores the thematic connection between viewer and viewed, stage and seat, artist and audience.

Borg Cardona’s distinct painterly style and sharp observational eye transform everyday human arrangements into rich visual compositions, inviting us to consider how we inhabit shared spaces — physically, emotionally, and socially.
