In The Landscape Beyond: Field of Becoming, Olaug Vethal transforms landscape from an observable place into a metaphysical state. Land, water and sky dissolve into fields of colour, gesture and energy, where the visible world merges with memory, perception and imagination.

Forms emerge and disappear through sweeping lines and translucent washes, suggesting a landscape that is never fixed but continually becoming. The external world becomes inseparable from
an interior one, revealing something beyond physical appearance.

Vethal’s landscape exists at this threshold between the tangible and intangible—a place where matter becomes sensation, observation gives way to intuition, and the familiar opens onto the unknown.

This work is currently hung at Spazju A, Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta until 25th October 2026 as part of the exhibition ‘Beyond The Visible | The Metaphysical Worlds of Olaug Vethal, curated by Christine Xuereb and in collaboration with Christine X Art Gallery
