Art teacher by profession and a mother of two boys, Debbie Bonello has dedicated the past three years to painting. She explores various media namely watercolour, etching, dry mediums, woodcuts but her most favourite is oil on canvas and it has now become part of her expression.
Debbie studied at the University of Malta and attended the School of Arts under the tuition of Anton Grech and later attended workshops with Debbie Caruana Dingli, Tonio Mallia and Andrew Borg. She held her first solo exhibition in Mdina and participated in numerous collective exhibitions. She was recently chosen to participate in the prestigious Inspired in China experience organised by the Chinese Cultural centre. Debbie is very active in the local art scene and works both from her studio in Balzan and occasionally joins the ‘en plein air’ artists, painting outdoors.
Her body of work varies and features, landscape, intense portraits, sweeping seascapes which all depict a strong sense of mood. Her oils are characterised by loose brushwork and splashes of colour that merge together for the final result.
