The Interval of the Mikado at the Manoel Theatre 1965 (ltd. ed. print)
by Kenneth Zammit Tabona
"I was still a schoolboy in my first year at St Aloysius College when my grandmother took my mother and I to what was then the newly renovated Manoel Theatre to see The Mikado by Gilbert & Sullivan. This was the first time I went to the theatre and I never forgot it. The result is this painting which is very personally nostalgic. During lockdown, many of my thoughts went to things that I missed and I can’t think of things I missed more than my mother and theatre. This is my first painting of the Manoel in 10 years and will be my first set of prints since the 90s, limited to a run of 100 prints. Each is printed on 285gsm Platinum Etching, acid free, fine art paper and individually pencil signed and numbered by the artist.” - Kenneth Zammit Tabona
